Indulge in the irresistible charm of Machiavelli Ristorante Italiano! Immerse yourself in a dining experience that is second to none, where every moment is infused with warmth, passion, and a deep love for exquisite Italian cuisine. Our passion for food has never changed. Thanks to our Chef Dom and his talented team, we only use the freshest ingredients available—locally sourced whenever possible—to prepare dishes bursting with flavour.
Our Wine
Our sommelier, Simone, will happily guide you through our vast selection of homegrown and international wines. Trust him; he will never let you down.
Our boutique wine list is carefully selected from the best regions of Italy. This careful selection extends to our local produce and neighbouring New Zealand cousins. We review our selections of wines frequently by researching vintage, new releases, and characteristics so we stay true to our Boutique objective.
There are 1,500 varieties of grapes unexplored by the Australian market, and my job is to identify the best suited to our food and seasons. However, more than knowledge is needed to meet this standard. It must be inspired by love and passion.
Events
We just love hosting special events and catering to them. If it’s in the calendar you can be sure we’ll be doing something special. Think Valentines, Day and Melbourne Cup, we like to celebrate and we love eating well while we do it!
Functions
Machiavelli has a variety of flexible packages to make events, parties and group dining seamless, catering for anywhere between 10 – 200 guests. Bookings can be made to hire the restaurant exclusively, a section of the restaurant or our semi-private area depending on your needs.
Whether it is a birthday, Christmas party, conference, a wedding or any special occasion, Machiavelli can tailor a package that is sure to impress your guests. The menus are selected and prepared with the finest produce available and complimented with our extensive wine list compiled by our Sommelier, Simone. If one of our set menus doesn’t suit your requirements, we can produce a bespoke menu especially for your event.

Our History
The story of Machiavelli Ristorante Italiano started in 1988 when Giovanna Toppi opened her doors to the world. A passionate home cook who had grown up with a love for food, Giovanna was determined to share the joys of Italian cuisine with others. She travelled from Naples to Sydney with a suitcase full of lessons learned from her mother in traditional Neapolitan cuisine.
Since then, we’ve become one of Sydney’s most beloved restaurants. We’re proud to have been a part of this community for so long, and we look forward to many more years of making memories with all of you!
Our passion for food has never changed. We only use the freshest ingredients available—locally sourced whenever possible—to prepare dishes bursting with flavour thanks to our Executive Chef Laurent Cambon, who infuses his Michelin-star experience into every menu item he creates.
Our central antipasto table is still stocked with cured meats and fresh vegetables that are hand-picked by your waiter straight from the table. This focus on the finest ingredients extends to the rest of the menu, where Laurent uses the freshest produce and, wherever possible, organic. Seafood is delivered twice daily from the Sydney Seafood Markets and converted into beautiful dishes that sing with flavour. After 28 years at the helm of Machiavelli, Giovanna sold the restaurant to Nicolae Bicher—an ex-Olympian who had previously dabbled in hospitality with a focus on growing international produce, hence his appreciation for fresh ingredients. Nicolae has maintained what he loved most about this historic restaurant.
